FIBER PIGTAILING
Fiber Attachment to Optical Circuits
PLC Connections can make permanent fiber attachments to any optical circuit. Fiber-to-waveguide attachment loss will depend on alignment and the numerical aperture of the fiber and waveguide, but is typically around 0.3 dB. For low delta-n waveguides that are matched to SMF-28 fiber, 0.1 dB is typical. For higher contrast waveguides to SMF-28 fiber, total bonding loss of < 1 dB can be realized.
The bonding gap and adhesive can be tailored for the application. Let us know your operating environment and loss requirements, and PLCC will select the best conditions for the job.
Check back with our website in early 2010, as we will be adding charts with empirical data for fiber-to-waveguide coupling loss that cover the following:
| • |
SMF-28 fiber to 0.3%, 0.7%, and 1.5% delta-n silica waveguides
|
| • |
Select high-NA fibers to 1.0% and 1.5% delta-n silica waveguides
